This page applies to the Phat (Xenon, Zephyr, Falcon, Jasper) and Slim (Trinity, Corona, Winchester) models. The Xbox 360 uses a grid layout system with letters and numbers to identify parts. For example, U4D1, the GPU, is an IC in section 4D. See the edges of the board for the sections, they are printed on.

Red Ring of Death[edit | edit source]
Ring of light quadrants flashing red/center light red
- To diagnose, hold down the sync button and press eject 4 times
- Each time you press eject, a certain number of the quadrants of the ring will flash
- 4 lights signify 0
- 1 lights signify 1
- 2 lights signify 2
- 3 lights signify 3
- On Xbox 360 E consoles, the ring will flash an amount of times then pause, count these to get the numbers
- After pressing it 4 times, you will have the secondary error code
- Example: seeing 4 lights 3 times, followed by 1 light once, means you have error code: 0001

Capacitor Plague[edit | edit source]
Many Xbox 360 units are affected by capacitor plague. However, most systems do not contain these defective caps. These caps are likely to fail:
- Sanyo WF series (most common)
- Nichicon HM and HN series
- Rubycon MFZ series
Replace affected capacitors with Low ESR or Ultra-Low ESR capacitors that have the same capacitance(uF), Voltage(V), temperature rating(e.g. 105°C), and dimensions(mm).
