Problem description
Identifying and solving backlight issues on the 6th generation iPad.
Symptoms
- The display appears completely dark, with no visible content or backlight illumination
- The iPad boots and charges and may still make sound.
Solution
Do a Visual Inspection of the motherboard near the LCD connector. There is a black sticker around the display connectors, remove it to see if there is any damage to the components underneath. There are two backlight filters that can explode if the LCD is connected or disconnected while the iPad's battery is plugged in. If you see they are bad, replacing them should fix your backlight problem.
It is common for this model iPad to have intermittent loss of video/backlight due to the 5662 backlight IC failing on the logic board. For whatever reason, this chip dies over time and causes the intermittent issue and/or a total loss of display. Replacing this chip fixes the issue.
