Filtering Capacitors/Modules to replace
- A common issue with these power supplies is that the compact filtered power entry module often degrades over time[1]. The capacitors inside of it often explode, and leave a nasty smell, and goo around it. The codename of the module is "FN282-6-06" and is still available for purchase. [2]
- The input module PCB has an X2 class 0.68 µF RIFA capacitor, the kind with the semi-transparent case that tends to crack, and allow moisture in. These kinds of capacitors, are recommended to be replaced in old gear. Note that this capacitor is 15mm wide, 31.5mm long, and the pin pitch is about 27.5mm. There's space enough for a couple mm wider or couple mm longer capacitor.
Terminal Block Screws
If you are missing terminal block screws, these are threaded UNC 6#-32, with a length of 1/4 inch[3]. This same thread is also used by "harddrive screws".
Backlight
The original units come with an EL backlight, some size measurements:
- The laminate, not including the protruding pins is 19mm x 110mm
- The active surface of the El backlight is 16.5mm x 100mm
- The pin pitch is about 4.8mm
- The space available underneath the dispay is about 21mm (top to bottomn) x 1.5mm thickness (and that is without compressing the rubber contacts)
- Some people have found a replacement EL backlight that is of compatible width, but longer length. [4][5], however keep in mind that cutting EL backlights to size will make them more susceptible to moisture ingress, and failure.
- Some people have repurposed an iPhone edge-lit led backlight with success, although they have not documented exactly where to source these backlights. [6]
