Inputs[edit | edit source]

Problem Solution

Analog stick drift or jumping around
(moves by itself in-game)

  • There are four pot. (two for each analogue), they should be cleaned first and if they are used up, then replaced, the whole analogue with the mechanism can be changed or only the pot. See Fig. 1
  • These pots will likely not center properly after replacement, you have to rotate them before soldering them in the correct center position, on PCBs without plated through holes you can bend over the pins to make this easier. In extreme cases you will need to shave the corner locating pegs.
  • There are two types of sticks used, green pot ALPS, and orange pot. You can only swap green to green and orange to orange due to shaft size.

Buttons not working

  • Clean carbon tracks on the PCB and carbon pad on the membrane
  • If cleaning doesn't help, measure continuity between diode footprint and IO expander's respective test pad, early revisions can have their vias disconnect out of nowhere. You can find pinouts and schematics Here

No Power[edit | edit source]

Problem Solution

Controller does not turn on
(It does not respond when you press the Xbox button or the sync button)

  • First, inspect the battery contacts for possible corrosion, then try to replace the batteries. If that does not work, try connecting the controller via USB. If this doesn't work, then you should measure voltages on the board to board connector, and later on the various parts of the PCB. You can find pinouts and schematics Here
