Problem description

Diagnosing and repairing an iPad Pro 12.9 4th Gen that does not charge.

Symptoms

  • iPad pulls zero or very few (0.01 - 0.14) amps from the charger.
  • Device may or may not boot.

Solution

  • The pins on this iPad's charging port can be damaged very easily. Unplug the charging port flex cable and inspect the gold pins that connect to the USB-C charger. If they are worn out or bent out of shape, replace the flex cable.
  • If your charging port is not damaged, check for shorts around the CD3217B12 charging controller. Some capacitors are hidden underneath the logic board's metal shield.
