Symptoms

  • Device powers on but Touch bar has no power
  • Missing keyboard backlight and ambient light sensor
  • Displays critical update but wont update.

Solution

Check for missing components near edge of board. Caps knocked off board while someone removing bottom cover with pry tool inserted too far. C4206, C4226, C4080, C4440, R4080, C4070. Some of the caps are filter only but a few are needed for proper operation. Device originally had no backlight due to shorted cap on PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT. But customer attempted to remove bottom and caused more damage.
