Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 16IML9 Blinks Caps lock
Device
Affects part(s) Motherboard
Needs equipment Soldering Iron
Difficulty ◉◉◌◌ Medium
Type Soldering

Problem description

The laptop would not turn on

The inductor in question

Symptoms

  • The laptop doesn't boot/post
  • Num Lock button blinks
  • Battery re-seat doesn't help, ssd is also ok

Solution

1) Remove the black film covering the heat sink/wifi card/etc

2) Check the Inductor. It had barely any solder on my unit before the repair - and the motherboard doesn't have any support peg/screw around the spot. Over time, the flex causes it to fall off. Because of the tape on top, it can be sometimes temporarily reconnected with pressure/flexing of the body.

3) If the inductor is loose(mine came off with tape), resolder it. I used a small iron as there are small smd components next to it and i needed precision. The iron was not powerful enough, so i added hot air to heat up the area from afar. Be careful not to burn the battery and the plastics around, if you didnt remove the board.

4)???

5) Profit! Unit in my shop worked after this rework.
