Problem description

Fixing a problem with a Siemens inverter Micro Master 6SE3121-3DC40 where the operator panel display is flickering and the inverter isn't starting properly.

Damaged area, C14 cap is blown (Figure 1)

Symptoms

  • Flickering display.
  • Not starting.
  • Various errors if started then turns off
  • Symptom 1 (Figure 1)
  • Symptom 2

Solution

Upon visual inspection, it was clear that C14 (figure 1) is blown. This capacitor is 39uF at 35V. After taking the capacitor off the PCB, there was obvious carbonization of the PCB (because of excessive heat) and all of it needed to be removed. After that, made sure there are no shorts anywhere (especially IGBT) and proceeded to replace the capacitor. I've used a 47uF instead and it worked just fine.
