Tables[edit | edit source]

Problem Solution
The Xbox One X won't power on (no response when pressing the power button)
  • Try a known working power supply.
  • Try a known good front power board
  • Replace HDMI redriver IC, there is no short circuit on the capacitors around TDP158 so it can not be diagnosed.
The Xbox One X power on but no image on TV
  • Try to reset console (prepare USB with firmware and insert into any free USB port on the console, while the console is turned off press Sync and Eject and then press the Xbox button to power up, release Xbox button but keep holding Sync and Eject button for 10-15 seconds, after second power-up tone release all buttons)
  • Check HDD, often console won`t display image on the TV if HDD is bad.
  • Check HDMI port, replace HDMI retimer IC Chip, check filters close to the HDMI retimer IC Chip. The retimer IC has a high fail rate on these consoles. A bad redriver can cause image flickering, distortion, or the signal to be cut all together. Sometimes symptoms will only occur when playing graphically demanding games. If the HDMI port looks fine, it's almost always the retimer for image issues.
  • Replace the HDMI Boost Protection IC. An Alternative ESD Booster IC has been developed that brings back functionality and has been released Here A video of the rough install. YouTube
Display output but only low resolution
  • Replace the HDMI Boost Protection IC. This IC cannot be purchased so a donor will need to be pulled and reballed.
The Xbox One X power on for a few seconds, then turns off
  • Try a known working power supply, it is usually some of the mosfet around the processor, check for short circuit on the capacitors and mosfet.
  • If there is no short on power rails and the mains power consumption does not goes much higher than ~20W, check/replace thermal paste (new thermal pads may be too thick/stiff?)
Console Beeps and Immediately Turns Off
  • Check for shorts on the Realtek 8111 Ethernet IC & the surrounding Capacitors, the Console can boot without it for testing
  • Excessive dust or dirt on the capacitors surrounding the Ram
Overheating Issues
  • Clean off all thermal paste & put new paste make sure to clean any dry thermal paste on the sides as dry thermal paste can generate a heat layer not allowing heat to escape.
  • If issue persists place the fan in an ultrasonic cleaner.
