CPU
The CPU comes in a pin grid array (PGA) package and can be user replaced with certain Socket G2 / Socket rPGA988B CPUs. Below is a list of tested working CPUs:
- Intel Core i5-2540M
- Intel Core i5-2450M
- Intel Core i3-2350M
- Intel Core i3-2330M
- Intel Core i3-2310M
Other CPUs may also work that have yet to be tested. Only 2nd generation Sandy Bridge CPUs will work with the HM65 chipset. Installing a Core i7 may result in overheating, as the i5-2540M already pushes past 90 °C under full load.
Display
- The manufacturer has included a 1366 × 768 15.6" thick TN panel from LG with model number LP156WH4(TL)(A1)
- The display uses a 40-pin WXGA cable
- DO NOT try to replace this display with a FHD (1920 × 1080) such as the LP156WFC(TL)(B1). This results in weird streaks on the display. We are unsure whether this is a cable limitation or a motherboard limitation. (possibly related to the LP156WFC(TL)(B1) using more channels (2 vs 1 for the LP156WH4(TL)(A1)) and the cable being unable to cope?)
RAM
- The laptop has two DDR3 SO-DIMM slots available
- Replacing RAM involves taking off the center cover on the bottom of the machine. It is held in by two screws
Wireless Card
- The laptop has one mini PCIe slot for wireless cards, under the same cover as the RAM slots
- The laptop will be able to support Bluetooth if you choose to install a wireless card with built-in Bluetooth
